ALF appliances and Palate Expanders are two methods dentists/orthodontists use to change the physical oral structure in order to remediate a variety of concerns. Is one of these options right for you?

The first step is an orofacial myofunctional evaluation. We value a team approach. If we feel palatal expansion and/or orthodontics may be beneficial in your care, we have a list of orthodontists to refer you to. Please call with questions or to schedule an evaluation.

ALTERNATIVE LIGHTWIRE FUNCTIONALS (ALF)

ALF is an alternative to traditional braces that addresses the root causes for crooked teeth such as mouth breathing, tongue position, oral habits (i.e. thumb sucking), nutrition, posture, and genetics. All of these factors have an effect on how the face grows, the jaw forms, and the teeth line up.

PALATE EXPANDER

ree

A palate expander — also called an orthodontic or palatal expander — is an oral device used to widen a narrow upper jaw. It fits in the roof of your mouth and gradually moves both halves of your jawbone apart.

A dentist or orthodontist might recommend a palate expander if you have crowded, overlapping or crooked teeth. It is also used with individuals who have difficulty chewing or a misaligned bite.
