Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we are in-network with BCBS of MN and Health Partners.  We accept private pay.  We do not accept medical assistance (MA), Tefra, or Ucare.  There is no guarantee for OMD therapy coverage.  We recommend you call for plan details or contact us with questions

Are services available via teletherapy?

Yes! Orofacial myofunctional therapy is very effective when offered online. We are excited to offer services to clients located anywhere in the state of Minnesota via our secure teletherapy platform. Contact us to learn more

Are you able to perform an evaluation online via teletherapy?

Many aspects of the initial evaluation can be done completed via teletherapy.  There may be a need for an in-person component to the evaluation. We will be able to make the appropriate recommendations regarding the evaluation during out consultation call.

What does an evaluation look like?

An evaluation takes approximately one hour.  During the evaluation, we will take a case history, listen to your concerns, and answer any questions.  Pictures will be taken; a speech articulation screening will be performed; we will conduct a swallowing assessment; oral measurements are taken; an assessment of the lips, cheeks, tongue, and jaw posture will be performed; we will assess breathing, sleep, and TMJ concerns. Following the evaluation, we will determine if therapy is recommended. If therapy is recommended, we will review your individual therapy plan and goals. Sometimes we may recommend that you or your child consult with other professionals (ENT, dentist, orthodontist, sleep specialist, TMJ specialist, allergist, etc.).  OMD therapy is always a team approach!

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Sometimes a doctor’s referral is needed for an assessment. Each insurance plan is different.  Please contact us to determine if a physician referral is needed prior to beginning services with Midwest Myofunctional Specialists.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment.  Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will be assessed a $30 cancellation fee.

How do I pay my bill?

We require payment at the time of service via BCBS, Health Partners, or private pay (via credit card, HSA/FSA or check).
